Meet Sammy!

Group Facilitator

In 2014, Sammy Provencio was sentenced to prison for the third time in 20 years. Under California's Three Strikes law, he received a life sentence. At that point, it seemed as though his future had already been decided.

But prison did not become the end of his story it became the beginning of his transformation. During his incarceration, Sammy took responsibility for the choices that had shaped his life and committed himself to understanding the trauma, thinking patterns, and behaviors that led him there. After spending more than half of his life behind bars, he was granted parole and released from San Diego's R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility in 2022.

Today, Sammy serves as a Group Facilitator with The Hub, a holistic reentry program created through the Stanislaus County Public Defender's Office. Drawing from both his professional training and lived experience, he works alongside attorneys, social workers, peer support specialists, and community partners to help justice-impacted individuals navigate reentry, rebuild their lives, and reduce the cycle of incarceration.

Sammy is also the creator of The Cell Inside Me, a transformative program that helps participants examine the underlying trauma, criminal thinking, emotional patterns, and core beliefs that contribute to harmful behavior and recidivism. Through accountability, healing, and self-reflection, the program empowers participants to build healthier relationships, make better decisions, and create lasting change.

Today, Sammy's life stands as a testament to the power of redemption, accountability, and second chances. His work reminds others that while we cannot change our past, we can choose how we move forward. Through compassion, service, and lived experience, he continues to help others discover that transformation is possible and that no one is defined solely by the worst decision they have ever made.
